I have spoken with several customers and emplyees at this "establishment" and while the food may be moerately acceptable, I cannot continue to support a store that presents such a false front. The butcher, of whom some highly speak, makes fairly consistant sexist jokes and refers to women (customers and employess) in extremely sexist terms on a daily basis. Some of the food has been there for a week, and before you choose to shop here, please consider what the owners will say about you once you walk out the door, or as they see you walk in. Family restaurants should be about family, caring about your customers, not knowing exactly what you can make fun of them about before they even walk in the door.

I can not agree totally with the reviews above, however I wish to relay my experience which my wife and I had today. We decided to go out for a lite dinner at about 7PM and decided to stop at the Raindancer. We were promptly seated and attended by the waitress. We pretty much had previously decided to eat in the bar area and order from the lite menu. The waitress also offer the nightly "features". I decided to order a steak and shrimp feature and my wife ordered from the lite menu and added a decaf coffee for her beverage.

The food was fine, but the check was somewhat unexpected with a total of almost $49.00 before tip. The feature was 28.99, lite item about 12.50, and the coffee 4.20 (this included a refill) plus tax. The coffee was the problem the $4.20 was actually a charge for two cups of coffee because of the requested refill. Now I understand the economic times are tough, but charging double because one chose to order from the lite menu seems excessive to this customer. Are they really that desperate to make some extra money.

I hope the Raindancer management are satisified with their attempts to control the bottom line by adding the charge for coffee refills for certatin customers. I consider myself and wife relatively frequent customers, however are now reassessing our position. The extra $2.10 for the refill has now caused my wife and I to reconsider our "bottom line". We will cut back our patronage at the Raindancer and frequent other restaurants in the area instead. We may not cut the Raindancer out completely, but it will be some time before we return for that extra $2.10 coffee refill.

Again I not condemming the Raindancer, but only wish to inform others and let them be aware. So they too can make their future choices.

have three bad experiences with Charlies.
The first time my "deadliest catch" crab legs were dry and tasteless. It was actually difficult to finish them. The second time the prime rib was so fatty that there was little meat to actually eat.

Tonights experience - Had a bloody mary at the bar. It was decent, not the best, not the worst. The service at the bar was very good. Friendly, and interacted well. Got a table for 5. My previous experiences led me to order something safe. At the table, my Stella Artois beer was skunky and past their due date already. I was told that is all that was in stock. They came back to the table with one in hand and already opened as if to say "drink it or leave it". The waitress clearly does not know how to pour a beer!

I had the chicken and lobster claw sandwhich. This was messy, however very tasty. There were no complaints there. Two chicken oscars were ordered and were said to be very good by my friends who had it tonight. I tasted one of them, and it seemed to be a little too tasteless for me. Good thing for the sauce that came on it and the asparagus too! The steak ordered had no complaints and was very good. The prime rib was fatty and not edible. It was ordered medium and came to the table on the rare side. My friend picked through it looking for some meat and finally gave up in defeat. It was taken off the bill.

Service was good, there are no complaints there, whether it was the bar area or the dining area. We were checked on several times and service was done in a timely fashion. Though its the food the makes me likely never to return here.

It was $119 for the 5 of us. That included drinks which everyone had a few.

This used to be a great restaurant that has slipped significantly over the years and is too pricey. We just went there and had the worst meal we have ever had anywhere. The waitress never asked or recited the specials. It started with horrible salad bar items. The worst coleslaw I ever tasted and over-fermented pickled beats and the area is too confined. Next was luke warm appetizers. Main course worse. Burnt chicken and ham in $20.00 pasta dish. Mild buffalo wings w/ absolutely no wing sauce. Just fried wings. Take home dessert was ordered and when we got home the order was wrong. Also one piece of $4.75 cake was a sliver and horrible(choclate mousse cake). We did not complain at the restaurant but when I got home and discovered the wrong dessert order, scant slice of cake, and the burnt meat hidden in the middle of my barely touched pasta dish I decided to call the restaurant. I spoke with a manager and she said she would kook into it and get back to me. I even told her I have the uneaten food as proof of it's condition. She said she would look into it and get back to me. Four days went by with no call back. I found it hard to understand why she just did'nt have me bring the food back and replace it. I called back and was treated as if I was lying with one excuse after the other. When I persisted she finally said she would send a gift certificate to cover the inedible pasta dish and peice of cake. She never apologized for the bad experience or anything. Very poor business practice! My advice: Save a few dollars. Go down the road to Charlie's. The owner used to be the chef at Raindancer!

I disagree with all the above.

I happen to think the wait staff there is extremely courteous and friendly.

While yes, I have had meals that I did not like, that only accounted for 1% of the time that I was there. The rest of the times, 99% , I can only say the food was great.

I am so glad Amsterdam finally has a place to eat that is relaxed and not terribly expensive. The deck is a great addition in the
summer also.

ALso, I am not a native of Amsterdam. I wish some of teh local people would stop trying to find fault with everything positive about this area. It really is counterproductive to promoting a good outlook for Amsterdam.

Keep up the good work at La Cuccina

I was amazed when I first walked into La Cucina. It is so nice and it felt exciting to think that something like this exists right here in Amsterdam. I felt like I was in Santa Monica or somewhere that you can find such tasteful and imaginative surroundings. However, the looks we received from the staff - as if to be saying "Who are you? We don't know you. What are you doing here?" They finally acknowledged us - I guess finally accepting that we were planning to sit down and stay to eat. But, the service was terrible - we were really annoying them by being there to be waited on. The food was excellent - can't say a thing bad about it. It was just really difficult to enjoy it in that frigid environment. We couldn't wait to leave and the people I was with will never put themselves through that awful feeling of being unwanted in there again. I would love to give them another chance, but I would have to know that they have new staff in their dining room who know something about customer service before going again.

There pizza could be one of the best around if only they would leave most of the Garlic out of the sauce. Even when you smell the freah pie the smell of Garlic is overwhelming. When your done eatting the pizza all you taste is garlic for the next couple days. I know of many people in the area that love there pizza but won't eat it because of this problem. I would like to pass this along to Chad. Leave the Garlic out and your pizza sales will probably go through the roof. The crust is excellent and the toppings are great. Just lose the Garlic please!
The other foods there are good.

I perosnally like the Winner's Circle, haven't been there in a while though. I heard they have a new cook, as of a year or so ago- a gentleman who used to cook at the truck stop in Fultonville if I'm not mistaken. The last time I was there the food sort of tasted like truckstop food. My cheeseburger was like eating a hockey puck.

I was told by a regular at the bar to go in on wednesday nights, apparently the former cook works there those nights???

Perhaps that is when you should try them again- I personally recomend any soup that comes out of that kitchen, the french onion is probably the best in the capital region.(and I eat everywhere!)

I would love for you to review Shorty's Southside. My take is that it is always consistent. We always know what to expect..great food, very friendly staff and what we love is that the owner comes out of the kitchen/goes out of his way to visit each table. Just a great place. Parking may be an issue on a busy night, but they do have a lot at the end of the street. I did notice that they just started advertising that as well. Great place to eat or just to have a drink.

I have to tell you that I ate at LaCucina and the food was great, but let me tell you about a lady who I thought was waitstaff and then found out it is the owners wife. She is not friendly! I overheard her talking to a lady at the table next to mine and she was very rude. I was very saddened because I enjoyed the food, atmosphere before witnessing such disrespect. What happened to the chefs and owners coming out and greeting their guests? What happened to the Sammy Pepe days? Are they long gone? Well maybe not because the owner does that at Shorty's. The three other people with me will not dine there again. I felt very bad for the couple who was treated rudely, so I spoke with them about it and they informed me that her name is Jackie Perillo and she never smiles and never has a good thing to say about anyone. Very disappointed!
