Amsterdam NY Restaurant and Food Reviews

Restaurant Recommendations

Here are my current recommendations for the Amsterdam, New York area. Click the restaurant name for my full review.

If you’re wondering why your favorite restaurant isn’t listed here it’s because I haven’t eaten there recently enough (or probably not at all) to include them. Please tell me about it and why you like it, I’m always looking for the next place to visit.

These get my recommendation:

Parillo’s Armory Grill has served me good meals.

Europa Cafe is a nice family-style cafe.

TJ’s Pizzeria in Fultonville is good for take-out pizza, subs and calzones. Occasional specials.

G.W.I.B. Coffee House is a nice cozy cafe featuring Polish food.

If you want to go here I won’t discourage you:

Charlie’s Restaurant competently cooks a menu ala Ruby Tuesday’s.

Maybe, on a rainy day:

La Cucina pizza is not bad, but during my visit they cooked their “wood fired” pizza with construction scraps.

Not recommended:

Raindancer might be able to put out decent entrees but they’ve gone downhill and have some serious quality control issues.

Drive the long way around just to avoid:

Winner’s Circle in Fonda serves river water in their drinking glasses, do they cook with it too?

Valentino’s can’t seem to get anything right.

With us no longer:

Upstreet Cafe

Texas Outlaw Barbecue

Michael’s

What does it mean?

Drive out of your way to visit: This is a wonderful place, take your favorite aunt/uncle when they visit.  (no reviews qualify for this right now)

These get my recommendation: I like it. If I invite you I’ll likely pay for your meal just so that you get to taste it.

If you want to go here I won’t discourage you: Basically like it says. I don’t eat here too often, but it’s not bad.

Maybe, on a rainy day: Good enough restaurant. Might be hit-or-miss, or maybe a problem. We’ll split the check.

Not recommended: Although I might join you, I’m ordering for myself, and you pay.

Drive the long way around just to avoid: I won’t eat there. I don’t want you to eat there. I don’t care who picks up the tab.

I would love for you to review Shorty’s Southside. My take is that it is always consistent. We always know what to expect..great food, very friendly staff and what we love is that the owner comes out of the kitchen/goes out of his way to visit each table. Just a great place. Parking may be an issue on a busy night, but they do have a lot at the end of the street. I did notice that they just started advertising that as well. Great place to eat or just to have a drink.
